The article is devoted to the study of the problems and prospects of transformation in the defense-industrial complex of Ukraine during the period of independence and investment in this industry. The conducted research demonstrates that the restructuring of the military-defense industry from the moment of restoration of independence to the moment of full-scale military invasion is not only a challenge, but also a necessity, given the rapid change of external factors around Ukraine to maintain strong national security and international authority of Ukraine in the world. In the current circumstances of a full-scale war, the issue of reforming and increasing the production of military enterprises is key to maintaining national security and the international image of Ukraine, but to achieve these goals, it is necessary to solve a number of strategic problems that hinder this, for example: corruption, Soviet legacy, funding restrictions, infrastructure problems, lack of strategically important technologies, unfinished reforms in the defense industry, etc. Recommendations are proposed that can help in reforming or creating a modern system of the defense industry of Ukraine. The study of this article provides an idea of what changes have occurred in the defense industry over the thirty years of independence and under the difficult conditions of a full-scale war with Russia. Reforming and investing in the defense industry is one of the key sectors of the economic and national development of any state, because it also helps build a national image and authority in the international political arena. The study examined the stages of development of changes and transformation of the defense industry of Ukraine, current problematic issues and ways to solve them. . The researched material also shows that despite regular enemy attacks on civilian and military facilities, Ukraine continues to adapt its military weapons production to the latest realities, which change almost daily, and has begun to develop new types of weapons, such as naval drones, ballistic missiles, drone missiles, cruise missiles, etc.
