The article investigates the theoretical, methodological, and applied aspects of forming the competitiveness of corporate business structures within an unstable external environment. It is substantiated that the competitiveness of business structures is a multidimensional phenomenon formed at the industry, resource, and innovation levels and realized through the synergetic interaction of enterprises within corporate associations. From the perspective of M. Porter’s industry approach, emphasis is placed on the role of strategic positioning, business diversification, and portfolio balancing. The resource-based approach allowed for the identification of the key importance of unique tangible, financial, human, and intangible resources, the centralized management of which enhances the overall efficiency of corporate structures.
The innovation level of competitiveness is revealed through the capacity for generating and commercializing innovations, particularly through digital transformation and the implementation of modern management technologies. The paper analyzes the dynamics of the number of active enterprises in Ukraine from 2012 to 2024, demonstrating the wave-like nature of the entrepreneurial sector's development under the influence of economic crises and wartime events. While the dominance of small and micro-enterprises is established, trends toward business concentration and enlargement are simultaneously identified.
The reasons for the revitalization of entrepreneurial activity in 2025 are summarized, relating to the stabilization of the business environment, state support, digitalization of registration procedures, and demographic shifts. Stimulating and constraining factors for increasing the competitiveness of business structures are systematized. It is proven that the key drivers are innovation, digital transformation, strategic management, human capital development, and resource modernization, whereas external crises, internal managerial inefficiencies, regulatory barriers, and intensifying global competition significantly limit it. It is concluded that digital and innovative tools represent the most promising direction for ensuring the sustainable competitiveness of corporate business structures in Ukraine, and directions for further scientific research in this field are identified.
