Abstract

The article investigates the relationship between digital transformation processes that shape the development of Industry 4.0 and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on the Ukrainian industrial sector under conditions of post-war recovery and green modernization. It is argued that the integration of digital technologies – artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, big data, blockchain, cyber-physical systems and automated monitoring – creates opportunities for more efficient use of resources, reduction of environmental pressure and strengthening of the socio-economic resilience of industrial enterprises. Based on a critical review of Ukrainian and international research, the paper systematizes key directions for combining innovation with sustainable development principles, including the transition to renewable energy sources, the formation of circular economy models, the introduction of “green” production and environmentally oriented management, as well as the dissemination of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) practices.

The empirical part of the study presents practical cases of Ukrainian and European companies that implement Industry 4.0 solutions in metallurgy, energy, machine-building, chemical and agro-industrial sectors. These cases demonstrate how digital tools such as smart factories, digital twins, smart grids, predictive analytics and automated quality control contribute to waste minimization, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency improvement and enhanced transparency of production processes. Particular attention is paid to the role of digital ecosystems and partnerships between business, the state, research institutions and IT companies in scaling innovative solutions and embedding SDGs into corporate strategies. The author substantiates that the synergy of Industry 4.0 technologies and sustainable development goals forms a new economic logic in which digitalization becomes not an end in itself, but an instrument for achieving ecological balance, social responsibility and long-term competitiveness of the national economy. The conclusions emphasize the need for institutional support, development of digital infrastructure, access to green finance and harmonization with European ESG standards, as well as further research into models for digital assessment and monitoring of enterprise sustainability.
