Abstract

The article explores youth social entrepreneurship as a crucial factor in Ukraine’s socio-economic development and post-war recovery. In light of current challenges such as economic instability, high unemployment, internal displacement, and the vulnerability of large segments of the population, the author emphasizes the increasing importance of youth-led entrepreneurial initiatives focused on achieving social impact alongside financial outcomes. Young people are presented as active agents of positive change, capable of addressing pressing societal issues through innovation, digital tools, and entrepreneurial thinking.
The study analyzes various academic approaches to defining social entrepreneurship, highlights the specific characteristics of youth initiatives, and outlines their influence on the economic and social spheres. Youth social entrepreneurship is considered not only a means of self-realization but also a powerful tool for fostering social cohesion, supporting internally displaced persons, war veterans, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. It contributes to the development of local communities, job creation, foreign investment attraction, and the implementation of innovative social solutions.
Special attention is given to the systemic barriers hindering the development of youth social entrepreneurship in Ukraine. These include the lack of a clear legal framework and unified definition of social entrepreneurship, limited access to funding and grants, difficult access to credit due to strict banking requirements, a shortage of tailored educational programs, and insufficient awareness among young people regarding business development tools. Psychological factors such as fear of failure, lack of experience, low self-esteem, and societal inertia are also considered.
The article substantiates a set of measures needed to create a favorable environment for youth social entrepreneurship in Ukraine. These measures include: adopting special legislation on social enterprises; introducing a system of state incentives, including tax benefits, subsidies, and preferential loans; creating a national network of business incubators, accelerators, and mentorship initiatives; and fostering partnerships between government institutions, civil society organizations, international donors, and educational institutions. The importance of promoting successful case studies of social entrepreneurship among young people is also emphasized as a way to enhance trust in this sector and motivate broader engagement.
The author highlights several successful Ukrainian initiatives supporting youth social entrepreneurship, particularly through the work of non-governmental organizations, educational programs, and grant competitions. Ultimately, the article argues that youth social entrepreneurship has not only economic value but also deep social relevance, contributing to the emergence of a new generation of socially responsible entrepreneurs committed to building an inclusive, resilient, and innovative society.
