INVESTMENT IN THE TRANSPORT INDUSTRY - AS THE BASIS OF RECOVERY OF THE COUNTRY'S ECONOMY

The main driver of the development of any country is investment. Activation of investment activities in Ukraine is a prerequisite for sustainable development, modernization, and renewal of the country's transport sector. In connection with full-scale military operations on the territory of Ukraine, logistical obstacles arose, and an additional load was created on the energy and transport infrastructure, primarily related to the functioning of transport networks and the operation of sea and river ports. Because military operations have become protracted, the prospects for stabilizing the economy remain highly uncertain.
The purpose of the article is to research the processes of investing in the development of the transport infrastructure of Ukraine, identify the main problems, analyze critical conditions, and justify the main directions and prospects for the reconstruction and further development of the transport industry in the conditions of post-war recovery. The article analyzes the transport sector in the country's gross domestic product and freight and passenger traffic dynamics and structure by mode of transport during 2010-2021. The transport sector's leading trends, structure, problems, and investment features over the last decade are analyzed. An analysis of the level of infrastructure development of various types of transport was carried out. The main challenges and future directions of investment in the transport industry during a prolonged state of war have been studied. The scope and structure of the needs for the reconstruction of the transport sector of Ukraine in the short-term and long-term perspectives were studied based on the World Bank assessment. It was found that despite the extended military operations and the high uncertainty of the post-war recovery, Ukrainian companies are confident in the need to invest in the development of transport infrastructure, which is a crucial driver of the reconstruction of the country's economy. The main areas of support, restoration, and development of the transport infrastructure of Ukraine in the conditions of the continuation of military operations have been studied.
