Abstract

The article delves into the theoretical and methodological foundations of academic communication in a foreign language, emphasizing its pivotal role as a prerequisite for the advancement of open science within the broader framework of globalization. In an era where international collaboration and the dissemination of knowledge across borders are increasingly prioritized, proficiency in foreign languages—particularly English—has emerged as a critical enabler of researchers’ integration into the global academic community.

The primary objective of this study is to develop a comprehensive and structured concept of academic communication in a foreign language, positioning it as an essential component of the open science paradigm. The analysis is conducted through a synthesis of systemic, interdisciplinary, and functional methodological approaches, which together allow for a holistic understanding of the issue at hand.

As a core outcome, the article proposes a five-component conceptual model that captures the key elements required for effective foreign-language academic communication. These elements include: (1) linguistic competence, (2) academic writing proficiency, (3) strategic publication planning, (4) digital identity formation, and (5) access to international scholarly resources. Together, these components constitute an integrated infrastructure that not only enhances transnational academic interaction but also boosts the visibility of research outputs and promotes sustainable global scientific partnerships.

The findings underline that academic communication in a foreign language transcends mere technical skill. It is conceptualized as a multifaceted process encompassing cognitive abilities, sociocultural awareness, and institutional frameworks. This process is instrumental in ensuring the transparency, ethical conduct, and broad accessibility of research, thereby reinforcing the foundational principles of open science. Moreover, the article offers practical guidelines for fostering multilingual research environments and strengthening scholars’ English-language competencies—key factors in elevating the global competitiveness of national research systems.
